Handy and helpful tips for new players to Hellgate:London.
Stuff players wished they new at the start
- Use shift+rightclick to buy and sell without having to drag the item
- dont sell junky or obsolete gear to vendors. deconstruct it. it'll give you some cash and more importantly scrap parts, which you can utilize for all sorts of upgrades
- You can drag skills to your left/right weapon indicators. The skills can be different between your F1-F3 weapon setups.
- when duel wielding guns, press K and on the bottom you will see a blue icon with double guns on it. Drag that to your mouse hot keys to fire both weapons at the same time with one key. Also, you can drag any skill from your skill screen do one of the mouse hot keys for quicker access.
- Right click on a party members's icon to create a portal right to that person.
- Destroy all boxes! Open all chests. This is a major source of money and basic items.
- Get +Luck items (and equip them)... really helps in finding better loot.
- Hit "P" to turn on auto-party, helps to find groups easily
- Always keep some spare anaylizers in your inventory. They come in handy mid levels.
- spend the time killing as much as you can in a level, don't just run through the main quest, you'll be severely gimped later
- For blademasters, Auras activate when used to KILL a mob Use other abilties and regular swings to bring them low, then finish them off with aura attacks for maximum buffs!
- Save a few stat points each level, or keep the ones you get from quests untill you understand more about the game and your class to better invest them. If you dont you will end up not being able to equip stuff in your 20's and theres no way around it other than to level to get more points.
- On the left and right side of the control bar (button bar, action bar, whatever you want to call it) you'll often see icons pop-up with different things. For example, if you're fighting you might see an attack pop-up on the left. If you're walking, you'll see the sprint ability pop-up on the left. Pushing the shift key activates the ability on the left. The ctrl key uses the item that appears on the right.
- The yellow ring around your health is ur shield's. They regenerate with time and not taking damage
- You can actually use the same weapon or shield in several of the F1-F3 weapon layouts.
- Press and hold 'Alt' to be able to move your mouse around to click stuff (access menus, click on party members, etc.)
- As a marksmen do remeber that range is your friend most of the time. Also the longer you fire a rapid fire weapons like the machine gun the worse you acc gets so short controlled bursts combined with tac stance is a good idea for long to mid range. At close range how ever go with long WILDLY uncontrolled bursts since you want the sucker dead as fast as possible and acc is not a real big issue.
- Groups and loot: What a monster or crate drops is different for every player in the party. Grab everything like it was a closing sale. It's all yours. However: If you are not within X range of the monster when it dies, you get nothing. The game doesn't care whether you did any damage to the monster. Be in range. Being in the same zone is not enough but I don't know the exact value of X.
- This is correct. Once your aura gets activated (i.e. there is an enemy within range) the circle will appear so that you can maneuver yourself to get the maximum number of enemies inside it. A very cool and handy feature, in my opinion. My tip for blademasters: A lot of enemies die in one or two hits. When fighting these, you can just use a grasper + a single sword rather than dual wielding. I find it faster, more efficient, and most of all more fun this way. I bring out my second sword for tough mobs
- Make sure to check the crafting merchants once in awhile, got a unique sword from one of them.
- The big number you see when looking at the tooltip of the weapon is NOT the damage. Its the over-all rating of the weapon, mods and other attributes included. If you want to see the damage, right click the weapon. It will say what kind it is, how much it does, weapon speed and the radius of any AoE effects.
- Recall skill is not the same as using a PTD
- Scroll mouse wheel moves the camera in and out of Firstperson and Thirdperson
- There is extra item "bank" storage in lockers in all stations. It's not represented by any icons - just look for a wall with little numbered cabinets in it. You'll see a green "use" hand pop up!
- It is best to identify ll items before selling them or braking them down
- Using the nanoforge will upgrade your weapon's damage but it will also increase the item level of your weapon. This can cause some of your mods to fail the level requirement and become inactive. To check if this has happened, "examine" your weapon by right-clicking it and mousing over your mods. Red text will tell you which requirements you fail to meet.
- FACT: All the Stations are actually Instances. You and your friends can be on THE SAME SERVER and in THE SAME STATION but never be able to see each other.
- Shield overload makes you do more dmg to shields only.
- if you press TAB once to show your mini-map as the circle, you can press TAB again and it'll turn into a more Diablo-like map
- The game box doesn't come with coffee.
- Pressing j shows the archivements list
- Shield overload destroys shilelds quicker, shield overcome makes part of the damage ignore the shield.
- Shield boost also instantly refills your shields and adds the extra from the boost.
- LWAYS kill the Imp Diabolist as soon as possible! The purple shield he puts on Troopers and Snipers is essentially invincible, and you're stuck swinging (or shooting, or casting) with no effect until the purple shield wears off.
- Get X-Fire! It greatly simplifies party coordination. And since it's in-game supported, you don't have to worry about one group using Teamspeak, one using Ventrillo etc etc.
